Horizon T101 treadmill is one of the best entry level treadmills Horizon has ever produced. It is a decent buy at around $600 by offering excellent value for your money and comes with pretty decent quality. So far, mostly all treadmill reviews are positive on the Horizon T101 treadmill. For the price paid, this is an attractive offer. But do Horizon T101 treadmill is the one that fits your need?

Motor – Good for Walking and Light Jogging
Horizon T101 treadmill is boasting by a 2.25 CHP motor which is good for walking or light jogging. With this CHP, this motor is not powerful enough for continuous pounding and running on the treadmill. It has a maximum speed of 10 mph and up to maximum incline of 10%. And, I don’t recommend you try reaching the motor maximum capability as this will stressing the motor and shorten the motor lifetime. For runner, please look for more heavy duty treadmill with at least 3.0 CHP motor.
Frame – Surprisingly Sturdy and Solid
Horizon T101 treadmill is a folding treadmill with FeatherLIGHT folding lift system allows for quick and easy folding and unfolding of your treadmill. For a $600 treadmill, Horizon T101 treadmill is surprisingly sturdy and giving solid feel. I believe this is most probably Horizon T101 is build by solid-steel frame and it is a fairly heavy treadmill which contribute to the stability. It can withstand up to 300 lbs maximum user weight capacity. Added, lifetime frame coverage for is provided by Horizon.
Running Surface – 20” x 55” with Adjustable Cushioning
Horizon T101 treadmill is comes with 20″ x 55″ 2-ply belt which is adequate for average height users. With this length, I do opinion Horizon is doing pretty generous for this machine especially when you consider the selling price of $600. Not only this, the deck is backed by a variable cushioning system name “3-zone Variable Response Cushioning” in order to reduces impact on your joints and delivers a more comfortable running surface. This adjustable cushioning system allow you change the firmness of the belt based on your need and giving more cushioning toward the front and less on back. The cushioning is still OK for the treadmill in budget price range.
Workout Programs & Heart Rate Monitor – Not too bad
There are total of 30 workout options to add some challenge to your workout. You are having option to set target for each workout with Time (from 15 minutes to 99 minutes), Distance (from 0.25 miles to 26.25 miles) and Calories (from 20 to 980 calories).
- Manual Workout – Time based workout and allows you to control Incline and Speed;
- Intervals Workout –Time based workout with preset incline/speed for 3 workout segments (warm-up, 90 seconds, and 30 seconds). The 3 segments repeat until your target is reached;
- Weight Loss Workout –Automatically control speed and incline for consecutive 30 seconds intervals until your set target is reached.
Plus, there is a heart rate grip allows you to monitor your heart rate during exercise to determine whether you need to slow down or pick up the pace. This is a basic feature, with the same limitations as on most Horizon treadmills as you can’t use the heart rate feedback in the actual workout as you can’t specify your own age or your target heart rate zone. Still, this heart rate monitor is better than nothing.
Console – Nice Design
The Horizon T101 does come with a nice console design with including the LED display, the MP3 docking station and speakers, and the power incline. The design is simple and very easy to figure out how to use it without refers to manual.
The incline control as well as speed control is located on the console. You can use its own individual buttons to increase/decrease incline from 0-10% or 0-10 MPH speed by using the up/down arrows.
Extra Accessory – Fairly Standard
For entertainment, the console allows you to insert your MP3 and CD player with your favorite music enable during workout. Speakers are included in the console but the quality is not so great. But still, I am not hoping for a stereo hi-fi system from a $600 treadmill. So I am satisfied with the extra luxury with this price point.
The cooling fans are also an added extra. It directs some breezy air right at your core and keeps you cool and refreshed as you exercise.
Warranty – Serious about Staying Competitive
Horizon is offer comprehensive lifetime frame, motor and backed with 2-year part and 1-year in-home labor protection plan. This kind of generous warranty is almost unheard for few years back for a treadmill at this price point. This proves that Horizon is serious about staying competitive for a budget range treadmill. You may want to optional for an additional one or two year extended warranty for your treadmill.
Price – Impressive
The price tag on this baby is impressive, especially considering the rock bottom price point. You will hardly disappoint on Horizon T101 treadmill with such variety features and quality especially when you found out this treadmill is only cost you less than $70. Furthermore, you are actually grabbing this treadmill from a leading fitness equipment manufacturer, Icon Fitness, who also makes Livestrong, Matrix, and Vision brands.
Wrap-up – Best Budget Treadmill
For a budget treadmill, Horizon T101 treadmill plays a good role by packing some good value into the price. I would rate it as one of the best buy at $600 range, although any treadmill at this price range has some limitations. It is not heavy duty and not as durable as more expensive models. It still lack of power, quality and features if you plan for hardcore workout. If you are only used for home fitness, Horizon T101 treadmill is a good buy for you.
