Motor – Best Fit for Walkers/Joggers
Horizon T202 treadmill is powering by a 2.5 CHP motor. My opinion, this motor would best fit for walkers and not for runners. It does not have a big and powerful enough motor to let you continue pounding on it. Runners should try to avoid this machine or run on at least 3 CHP motor. Although Horizon treadmill has maximum speed of 12 mph and maximum incline of 12% incline, I would recommend you try not to reach the motor maximum capability in order not to stress the motor. But luckily the motor is quiet and spin-balanced when I try to increase the speed. Consider one of the winning points.
Added, Horizon stated T202 treadmill can withstand up to maximum weigh capacity of 325 lbs. But still, I do feel many fitness stores over estimate on it. For heavy users, we recommend you look for at least $1000 treadmill. Try not to over-stress the motor; you will find your workout will be more enjoyable.
Frame – Scores High on Its Stability
Horizon T202 treadmill is a folding treadmill with FeatherLIGHT™ folding lift system allows for quick and easy folding and unfolding of your treadmill. It comes with a hydraulic lift assist which makes the folding/unfolding process easier and effortless. Besides, Horizon wins a lot of reviews attention and score high on its stability. In fact, for a budget range treadmill of $799, Horizon does a good part by providing sturdy feel treadmill. It even offers lifetime frame coverage for Horizon T202 treadmill and this proves that Horizon is very confident on its frame.
Running Surface – Adjustable Cushioning Based On Your Need
The running surface is with a standard-sized 20″ x 55″ walking area with the PerfectFLEX Plus cushioning. This adjustable cushioning allows you change the firmness of the belt based on your need which provides shock absorption and support for your knees and ankle to minimize injuries.
Workout Programs & Heart Rate Monitor – Not too bad
There are total of 12 workout options with 3 targets (Time, Distance, Calories) in combination with one of 4 workouts (Manual, Intervals, Hills, Weight Loss) to add some challenge to your workout. What Horizon T202 has to offer more than T101 is the Hills Workout. You are having option to set target for each workout with Time (from 15 minutes to 99 minutes), Distance (from 0.25 miles to 26.25 miles) and Calories (from 20 to 980 calories). There is also a 1-31 day goal training for more long term fitness goals. This feature allows keeping track of results in comparison with the goals set
- Manual Workout – Time based workout and allows you to control Incline and Speed;
- Intervals Workout –Time based workout with preset incline/speed for 3 workout segments (warm-up, 90 seconds, and 30 seconds). The 3 segments repeat until your target is reached;
- Weight Loss Workout –Automatically control speed and incline for consecutive 30 seconds intervals until your set target is reached.
- Hills Workout – Simulates hill running up and down by controlling automatic incline and speed for every 30 seconds interval
There’s even a pair of pulse grip handles built in so you can exercise in your target heart rate zone for maximum results. To check your heart rate, you need to grab onto the handgrips until a reading is taken. This may look awkward, but if you need an accurate reading, remember to hold the handgrips until the reading is taken.
Console – Basic Feature But Still Nice To Have
The console comes with two 4-digit LED windows which show your important workout information. You also can adjust your incline/speed just by one touch of button at console instead of scrolling through all of your option. A basic feature, but still nice to have it.
Extra Accessory – iPod + Nike Features
I enjoy connect my iPod to the console and listen to favorite music enable from the speakers. While this is becoming a fairly standard feature, it’s still handy to have and can make your workouts a lot more enjoyable. The speakers sound not so great but you cannot really compare it with your stereo sound system. I am ok for it.
And, with the iPod + Nike feature, you can save your workout data like distance, time and calories burn straight to your iPod for simple workout tracking. Go online and iTunes will automatically sync your workout to the Nike website. It’s quite fun and effective to track your workout progress in more interesting way.
The cooling fans are also an added extra. Just located in the console, it helps to provide very slight breeze to your core during workouts. Fairly worthless fan.
Warranty – Unheard Generous at This Price Point
Horizon is offer comprehensive lifetime frame, motor and backed with 1 year part and 1-year in-home labor protection plan. This kind of generous warranty is almost unheard for few years back for a treadmill at this price point. This proves that Horizon is serious about staying competitive for a budget range treadmill. You may want to optional for an additional one or two year extended warranty for your treadmill.
Price – Best Budget treadmill
For a $799 treadmill the Horizon T202 is probably one of the sturdier machines on the market at this price range. Comparing T101 treadmill with additional $200, Horizon T202 is coming with more powerful motor with additional Nike Plus and iPod capability. If you need a treadmill for walking with basic features, then just go for Horizon T101 treadmill and save the extra $200. If you need more, Horizon T202 treadmill should be expected to hold up well under normal home use for walking and light jogging.
Wrap-up – Positive Reviews and Score High for its Overall Value
Horizon T202 treadmill earned a lot positive reviews on its stability and score high for its overall value for money. It wins the “Best Buy” award from a leading consumer magazine for reliability, safety, construction, and overall operation. But still, this is a budget starter treadmill. It won’t give you the commercial grade feels or stability of a higher end treadmill. Horizon T202 treadmill packs a lot of value into a small price. It is one of the best buy with sales price at $799 for most walkers and light joggers of average height and weight.
